Trump announces sweeping renovation of Dulles airport

The Hill · 5 hours ago

President Donald Trump has announced a proposed $22.5 billion overhaul of Washington Dulles International Airport, aimed at replacing its long-used mobile lounges and modernising passenger facilities. The plan matters because Dulles is the Washington region’s principal international gateway, but major elements would require approval and funding arrangements beyond the White House’s announcement.

The proposal includes a U-shaped passenger rail system, a central pedestrian tunnel, additional moving walkways, new concourses and a 32,000-space car park nearer the main terminal. Dulles handled a record 29 million passengers in 2025, while the airport authority already had a separate long-term capital plan expected to cost at least $7 billion.
