James “Jim” Copenhaver, who was seriously wounded in the July 2024 assassination attempt at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died aged 76. He was shot twice while attending the event and suffered permanent, life-altering injuries; the circumstances of his death have not been disclosed. His death was confirmed by sources and mourned by the House Republicans.

Copenhaver was shot in the left arm and abdomen after moving to a different seating area, and he required several operations, including abdominal and colon repairs. He reportedly continued to have bullet fragments in his body and numbness from his knee to his hip, and sued the US government in June over the consequences of his injuries. Trump was wounded in the ear during the shooting, while another spectator, David Dutch, also survived gunshot wounds.
