Democrats plan House probes into Trump projects, businesses and conduct
Developing story first seen 6 hours ago
The new details centre on Democrats’ plans to investigate projects linked to Trump, including funding for a proposed White House ballroom, a triumphal arch and repairs to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The House Natural Resources Committee is expected to examine those projects, while other committees prepare inquiries into Trump family business and administration conduct.
Democrats are expected to take control of House committees in January, gaining subpoena powers and resources for investigations. Planned targets include family cryptocurrency ventures, Don Jr’s investment firm, Trump’s use of a Qatari jet as Air Force One, ICE operations and the handling of Epstein files; a cryptocurrency deal reportedly brought in $1.4 billion. Committees can refer people who defy subpoenas for contempt, but federal charges would depend on the Justice Department, which remains under Trump’s attorney general.
