Neff told interviewer Jeremy Boreing that when he privately asked Carlson to stop his brother from promoting unfounded claims—including a theory linking Kirk's assassination to a "black magic ritual"—Carlson declined to intervene, marking what Neff views as a troubling shift in Carlson's character and approach to misinformation within conservative circles.

Neff, who was standing twenty feet away when Kirk was killed by an assassin at Utah Valley University, is uniquely positioned to witness the rupture. He alleges that Carlson has come to uncritically accept negative claims about his perceived opponents, suggesting the television personality now readily embraces conspiracy theories without scrutiny. Neff notes that figures including Candace Owens have promoted various theories surrounding Kirk's death, and that Carlson's apparent willingness to tolerate or enable this stands in sharp contrast to his perceived values in 2018. Neff appears conflicted in his criticism, acknowledging that Carlson mentored him early in his career, having recruited him from The Daily Caller to write monologues that shaped the tone of his Fox News programme.
