Tuipulotu takes ‘full responsibility’ for Scotland collapse
Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu took responsibility for his side’s second-half collapse in a 43-21 defeat by New Zealand at Murrayfield. Scotland were only three points behind at half-time but failed to score after the break, ending hopes of a first win over the All Blacks in 34 attempts.
Tuipulotu was sin-binned in the 50th minute after Scotland conceded a run of penalties, and Beauden Barrett scored soon afterwards as New Zealand took control. Scotland conceded 13 penalties to New Zealand’s eight, while their success rate in the opposition 22 was 30%, compared with New Zealand’s 58%. Coach Gregor Townsend said Scotland needed to improve their discipline and become harder to break down; they next face Australia.
In short
- Tuipulotu accepted responsibility for Scotland’s loss of discipline.
- New Zealand scored 43 points and ran away with the match after half-time.
- Scotland must regroup before a must-win game against Australia.
