Twist in violent death of Aussie businessman at a luxury resort in Fiji as his girlfriend is named a suspect

Daily Mail · 1 hour ago

Fijian police have named Shivani Siwan, the girlfriend of Gold Coast businessman Jason Rigby, as a suspect in his death, reversing an earlier suicide finding. Rigby, 40, an assistant manager at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort, died from stab wounds to the chest in December 2024, and his case is now being treated as murder, marking a significant shift after his family long disputed the official account.

Siwan found Rigby's body and told his family he had taken his own life, but Fiji Police Force Assistant Commissioner Loraini Seru confirmed detectives have interviewed her as their sole suspect so far, with the evidence brief now with prosecutors for a charging decision. The investigation has been hampered by police losing an autopsy report for ten months and delays by the Australian Federal Police in accessing Rigby's work phone. Executive chef Ian Lovie, who was also present when Rigby died, is not considered a suspect, and Rigby's family has hired a private investigator and lawyer, saying they believe others may have been involved.
