A parliamentary committee is to investigate why the UK has performed so poorly at Eurovision in recent years. MPs will examine how the BBC selects its entries and whether the results reflect weak song choices, performances or wider problems in the music industry.

The UK has reached the top 10 only three times since 2000 and finished last six times, including in 2026, when Look Mum No Computer received no public-vote points. By contrast, it finished in the top 10 almost every year before 2000 and won in 1997; Sam Ryder’s second-place result in 2022 was a rare recent success. The committee is expected to hear from BBC executives and music experts, amid wider political controversy surrounding Israel’s participation and several countries’ boycotts.
