Ukraine’s Starlink restored as Elon Musk claims Kyiv violated terms of service ‘to kill people’
Ukraine’s wider access to Starlink was restored after more than a week of speed restrictions disrupted military communications and drone operations. Elon Musk defended SpaceX’s role in supporting Ukraine but alleged that Kyiv had breached the service’s terms by using it for offensive drone strikes; he said the loophole had been closed.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said connections were stable at speeds of up to 250 mph, though the reason for the restrictions remains unclear. A source said Ukrainian forces received no advance warning and were told the limits applied to Starshield service on platforms travelling at 100 mph or faster. Musk did not identify who authorised the change, while US officials denied responsibility; the country’s Starlink arrangements are contracted through the US government until May 2027.
In short
- Ukraine regained broader access to Starlink after disruptive speed restrictions.
- Musk accused Kyiv of using the service for offensive drone strikes.
- The reason for the restrictions and who authorised them remain unclear.
