Urgent travel alert as nationwide strike threatens widespread disruption and delays
Spain’s largest unions have called a 24-hour nationwide strike for 11 November, urging action on the housing crisis as well as better wages and labour and social protections. Transport, hospitality and other sectors may be affected, with demonstrations expected in major cities, so travellers are being advised to check their plans.
The scale of disruption to individual services has not been confirmed. In Catalonia, metro, bus and regional transport are scheduled to run at 25% of normal service during morning and evening peak periods; the Barcelona airport bus is set for 50% service. Catalonia’s commuter and regional trains are also due to run reduced services on 10 and 12 November amid separate train-driver strikes. The US Embassy advises citizens to avoid demonstrations, monitor local news and follow authorities’ instructions.
