Donald Trump is due to conclude Chinese president Xi Jinping’s three-day state visit by taking him to the National Archives in Washington. The tour is intended to showcase the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights during the US’s 250th anniversary celebrations, while also highlighting historical links between the two countries.

Xi will begin the day at the White House with tea hosted by Trump and Melania Trump, before departing after the archives visit. The visit followed a non-televised state dinner, amid continued restrictions on CNN journalists despite a court order; meanwhile, protests over Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN appearance led to arrests, and New York mayor Zohran Mamdani publicised his support for Palestinian families from Gaza.
