Venice Drama ‘I Matter’, About Roma Experience, Gets Sales Deal
Pluto Film has acquired international sales rights to Alina Șerban’s debut feature, I Matter, ahead of its world premiere in Venice’s Spotlight section. The drama explores Roma identity, belonging and minority experience, drawing on Șerban’s own background; its selection is described by the filmmakers as the first A-list festival selection for a feature by a Roma woman.
The film follows Rebeca, a young Roma woman leaving an orphanage who is accepted to study acting but must confront unresolved family pressures. It is produced by companies including Microfilm, 2PilotsFilmproduction and Frakas Productions, with support from European and Romanian funding bodies; Șerban has spent 15 years advancing Roma stories through theatre and film.
