Vietnamese Horror ‘Arithmadtic’ Leads Bee Entertainment’s Busan Market Slate, With New Film From ‘The Corpse’ Director

Variety ·

Vietnamese production company Bee Entertainment has presented a genre-heavy slate to international buyers at Busan's Asian Contents & Film Market, led by psychological horror "Arithmadtic." The timing capitalises on Vietnamese cinema's breakthrough moment: films made in the country grossed over VND3 trillion ($114 million) domestically in 2025, outperforming international releases for the first time.

"Arithmadtic," set in an elite international school with Dark Academia aesthetics, follows a transfer student's enigmatic relationship with a teacher as supernatural incidents unfold; it stars Anh Thu and Lam Thanh My and is directed by Irving Ly, whose previous work won awards at international festivals. Bee Entertainment's broader slate comprises four feature films scheduled for 2027 release—including "The Step-Mother," "How to Find a Fortune in 60 Days" from director Pom Nguyen (whose "The Corpse" franchise earned over VND280 billion), and "Dealing With a Ghost"—alongside three television dramas, including "The Unrecognized Heir," a family drama that has already drawn 1 billion social media views since airing in December 2025.

Vietnamese cinema has undergone a significant shift in recent years. In 2025, films produced in Vietnam earned more money at home than international releases for the first time, with domestic productions grossing over 114 million dollars. This marks a turning point, indicating growing audience interest in Vietnamese-made content.

Bee Entertainment is a Vietnamese production company that develops films and television dramas for both domestic and international audiences. The company has achieved notable commercial and critical success: one of its television dramas accumulated over a billion social media views following its December 2025 release, whilst several of its films have won recognition at international festivals. The company produces work across various genres, from psychological horror to family drama.

As the Vietnamese film industry expands, production companies are increasingly developing content for international markets. Bee Entertainment's upcoming productions, scheduled for 2027 release and beyond, reflect this trend towards reaching global audiences. This growth in international ambitions comes at a time when the Vietnamese film industry has demonstrated strong domestic performance and is establishing itself in global entertainment markets.
