The Football Association of Wales announced that Cymru captain Ben Davies had joined its Council as one of eight new representatives, with the appointments effective from 1 August. Davies is to serve as a players’ representative, bringing experience of international tournaments and Premier League football to the body. The FAW said the wider group, which also includes representatives for coaches, supporters and young people, is part of its governance reforms intended to give people across Welsh football a stronger voice in decision-making.

Separately, Essex faced mounting water-supply pressures during persistent hot, dry weather. The Environment Agency recorded Hanningfield Reservoir, operated by Essex and Suffolk Water, among five English reservoirs at exceptionally low levels, while Essex and Suffolk Water remained at drought level 2 with a hosepipe ban in force across its supply area. On 13 August, Thames Water said repairs to several burst mains were complete after disruption left around 10,000 homes in Essex and east London with no or reduced supply; it said the network was being recharged and bottled-water support remained available. The FAW appointment and the Essex water problems occurred on the same date, but the available reporting provides no link between them.

  • Cymru captain Ben Davies joined the FAW Council as a players’ representative.
  • Essex and Suffolk Water remained under drought restrictions amid exceptionally low reservoir levels.
  • Burst mains disrupted supplies to about 10,000 homes in Essex and east London.
