DC Studios has reportedly cancelled the planned Waller and Paradise Lost television series, leaving three of the five TV projects announced in its 2023 slate no longer moving forward. The reported cancellations further reshape James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe as the studio seeks a clearer footing following mixed results for recent films.
Waller was expected to return Viola Davis to the role of Amanda Waller, while Paradise Lost was planned as a drama about the origins and political intrigue of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s homeland. Booster Gold remains uncertain: writer David Jenkins has departed, but DC Studios is reportedly seeking a replacement creative team; forthcoming projects include Lanterns, Clayface and 2027’s Man of Tomorrow.

DC Studios is the film and television division of Warner Bros. Discovery that makes programmes based on DC Comics characters, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. In 2023, its co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a new, connected run of films and series known as the DC Universe, intended to give the company’s screen projects a clearer shared direction.
Amanda Waller is a senior US government official in DC stories who often controls the Suicide Squad, a team of imprisoned villains sent on dangerous missions. Viola Davis has played the character in several previous films and series, while Themyscira is the hidden island home of Wonder Woman and the Amazons.
The planned programmes were part of an effort to link television stories with major cinema releases. Changes to the line-up can affect which characters are introduced, how storylines connect and how quickly the wider DC Universe develops.
