Northern Ireland boxers Michaela Walsh and Kaci Rock won silver medals after unanimous-decision defeats in their Commonwealth Games finals. Walsh’s result is particularly significant as it gives the 33-year-old a medal at each of her four Games appearances, while Rock secured a podium finish at her first Games.

Walsh lost to Jaismine after a slow opening round and could not overturn the deficit despite pressing for a stoppage late on; three judges scored it 29-28 and two 30-27. Rock, 23, was beaten by England’s Sacha Hickey, with four judges scoring the bout 30-27 and one 29-28, while Jon McConnell remained in contention to win Northern Ireland boxing’s first gold of the Games.
