Westwood ‘unemployed’ amid LIV uncertainty as Rahm discusses exit
Lee Westwood says he has not agreed to join a proposed second version of LIV Golf and has not discussed returning to the DP World Tour, describing himself as “unemployed” while he weighs his options. The uncertainty follows the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s withdrawal of support and LIV’s move to seek bankruptcy protection, leaving the tour’s future unclear.
LIV has secured possible financing of $300m to try to launch in 2027, but only a handful of players have committed. Jon Rahm, who left LIV in October, said he disliked the direction of the proposed format, which he felt was moving away from team golf; several other prominent players have also departed. Westwood could seek to return to the DP World Tour, where he has 25 wins and 11 Ryder Cup appearances, but would face a 10-tournament suspension.
In short
- Westwood has not signed for LIV 2.0.
- Rahm says he left over the tour’s proposed changes.
- A DP World Tour return would mean a 10-event suspension.
