Understanding these hidden factors helps buyers decide whether spending more actually improves picture quality for their specific viewing needs, rather than paying purely for a bigger number on the box.

The display panel accounts for most of the price gap: budget TVs typically use basic LED-backlit LCD panels with poor local light control, producing washed-out blacks and inconsistent brightness, whereas pricier sets use QLED (quantum-dot colour), Mini LED (smaller, more numerous dimming zones) or Micro RGB backlights, with OLED panels—where each pixel emits its own light for perfect blacks—sitting at the top.
