Which album did Blind Faith knock from the top of the US charts in 1969?
Blind Faith’s only album knocked Johnny Cash’s *At San Quentin* from the top of the US album chart on 20 September 1969. The change marked the end of Cash’s four-week run at number one and the brief chart dominance of the newly formed supergroup.
*At San Quentin* had benefited from the success of Cash’s earlier prison album, *At Folsom Prison*, and the hit single “A Boy Named Sue”. Its San Quentin performance reached number two on the US singles chart; Blind Faith’s album, released on 9 August, also topped the UK chart. The group featured former Cream members Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, alongside Steve Winwood and bassist Ric Grech, but split after releasing that one album.
- Blind Faith displaced Johnny Cash’s *At San Quentin*.
- Cash’s album had spent four weeks at number one.
- Blind Faith’s sole album topped charts in the UK and US.
