Why Daisy Edgar-Jones Listened to Dolly Parton to Prep for ‘Sense and Sensibility’
Daisy Edgar-Jones says she used music, including Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again”, to get into character while preparing to play Elinor Dashwood in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s *Sense and Sensibility*. She sees the song’s mix of heartbreak and female anger as something Elinor might have expressed if she had lived in Parton’s time.
Edgar-Jones, who read Austen’s novels as a teenager, described Elinor as emotionally deep and strong, but used to keeping her feelings contained. Her playlist for the film also includes Billie Holiday, Minnie Riperton and contemporary artists. Co-star Esmé Creed-Miles said the adaptation gives greater attention to the sisters’ relationship, and praised the close-knit group of women who made the film.
