The Television Critics Association, a professional group of US and Canadian journalists who cover television, hands out annual awards recognising the best programmes of the season as voted on by its members. Unlike the Emmys, the TCA Awards are decided by critics rather than industry insiders, and results are simply announced online rather than at a broadcast ceremony. This year's awards cover the 2025-2026 television season.
The shortlisted shows span several major streaming and cable platforms, including Apple TV, HBO and Netflix, reflecting how television is now largely watched and produced across competing subscription services rather than traditional broadcast networks. Contenders included a mix of new titles and returning favourites across genres such as drama, comedy and hospital procedurals, alongside recognition for individual performers and long-running talk shows.
These awards matter because critical recognition can shape a show's visibility and reputation, even though the TCA Awards carry less commercial weight than the Emmys. They also offer a snapshot of which streaming platforms and genres critics see as leading the field in a given year.
