Wild new flash floods hit Spanish tourist hotspots as storms claim second victim
Storm Adam has brought severe flash flooding to Spain’s Balearic Islands and parts of the east coast, prompting the army to help local emergency services. Two women have died: one was swept away by a swollen stream near Barcelona, and another was found at sea after going swimming despite storm warnings.
Flooding disrupted Ibiza airport, closed schools across Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera, and inundated a hospital on Formentera. Five flights were cancelled and 16 diverted during the airport closure, with knock-on cancellations rising to 27; nearly 100 people were evacuated from a campsite in Jávea, while red and orange weather alerts remained in force.
