Wildlife park reopens after man killed by tiger
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has reopened after William Chapman, 24, was killed by a tiger in an enclosure near Doncaster. The death has prompted police inquiries, a council health and safety investigation and an inquest, with questions raised by his family about his contact with mental health services.
The park said it had reopened after engaging with relevant authorities and that the tiger, Altai, was safe and would not be euthanised. Chapman had a history of mental illness, including previous bouts of psychosis, and was under the care of an NHS trust, though the inquest heard he was independent and had no care requirements. The inquest was adjourned until 18 March 2027.
