The push, titled "Made In Scotland?", comes amid concern that clubs are increasingly overlooking homegrown talent in favour of foreign signings, with the case of Robbie Ure — released by Rangers as a teenager and now attracting an £8m offer from Sevilla after flourishing in Sweden — cited as a cautionary example of talent squandered.

Statistics from the opening two rounds of the Premiership season underline the issue: only 31% of players used were Scottish, and just 5% were Scots aged 21 or under, with 46 different nationalities represented. Dundee United fielded only one Scottish player, Dylan Tait, across their first two matches, while clubs such as Celtic and Rangers have previously lost promising academy products — including Ben Doak (now Gannon-Doak) and Ure himself — to English or European football after failing to give them regular first-team football.
