Serena and Venus Williams have been given a wildcard to play women's doubles together at the Cincinnati Open, marking their first pairing since the 2022 US Open. The reunion had originally been planned for Wimbledon in July, but Serena withdrew from that doubles appearance after suffering a knee injury during her singles comeback defeat to Australia's Maya Joint.

The WTA 1000 tournament runs from 11-23 August in Ohio, and the doubles entry could signal a path back to the US Open for Serena, who has not played a Grand Slam in New York since her third-round exit four years ago. The 44-year-old is one Grand Slam singles title short of the all-time record of 24, jointly held by Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic, while she and 46-year-old Venus have together won 14 major doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals. Venus has also been given a separate wildcard into the Cincinnati singles draw.
