Wissa & Toure star as Jaissle wins first Newcastle friendly – ratings
Newcastle United won 2-1 away at Valencia in Matthias Jaissle's first pre-season friendly as head coach, with substitute Yoane Wissa scoring twice to turn the match around. Valencia's Filip Ugrinic had given the hosts an early lead with a curling strike, and Valencia captain Jose Gaya was later sent off for a poor challenge on Anthony Elanga, who was helped off on a stretcher though the club is hopeful the injury is not serious.
Wissa levelled with a close-range finish before new signing Bazoumana Toure, who joined from Hoffenheim for £43m, squared the ball for Wissa to complete the turnaround. Both scorers impressed among the substitutes, alongside young players such as 18-year-old Sean Steur and debutant Henry Johnson, while another new arrival, Aladji Bamba (up to £34m from Monaco), made a composed first appearance in defence.
