Wolverine Officially Goes Gold Just 3 Weeks Ahead of New Release

Collider · 3 hours ago

Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine has officially "gone gold," meaning the PlayStation 5 title is complete and ready for manufacturing, with roughly three weeks to go before its 15 September launch. The milestone marks one of the final steps in a lengthy and troubled development process for the standalone superhero game, which was first revealed nearly five years ago alongside Marvel's Spider-Man 2 but suffered a significantly longer road to completion.

The game's development was notably disrupted by a 2023 ransomware attack on Insomniac by the group Rhysida, which leaked early builds and assets online and took an emotional toll on the development team. Little was shown of Wolverine publicly until last year, when a 2026 release date was confirmed. To celebrate going gold, Insomniac shared a short video on X showing the character unleashing golden claws, a cosmetic option that will reportedly be available for players to use in the finished game.

  • Marvel's Wolverine has gone gold ahead of its September 15 release.
  • Development was delayed for years, including by a 2023 ransomware attack.
  • Insomniac marked the milestone with a golden-claws video.
