X-Files Creator Chris Carter on How His I Want to Believe Director’s Cut Dovetailed Into His Second Feature, Queens for a Day

IGN ·

Chris Carter says restoring his 2008 film, *The X-Files: I Want to Believe*, helped lead into production of his second feature, *Queens for a Day*. The self-funded, politically minded film, written by his wife Dori Carter, turns a decades-old screenplay into a story about empathy across political and generational divides.

Carter completed his director’s cut in December 2025, then moved to Vancouver and filmed *Queens for a Day* over 32 days in early 2026, finishing its edit around 9 October. The story follows Judge Jerri, a conservative news pundit who wakes up in her estranged mother’s body in the 1950s after a car crash. Carter also restored the Frankenstein theme he felt Fox’s original edits had removed from *I Want to Believe*.

In short

  • Carter’s director’s cut paved the way for his second feature.
  • *Queens for a Day* was filmed in Vancouver over 32 days.
  • Its political body-swap story explores empathy across generations.
