Debian invites artwork submissions for version 14 Forky release
Debian Linux has launched a call for community artwork submissions for its next release, version 14, codenamed Forky. Artists' work could reach millions of users across boot screens, login prompts and desktop wallpapers. The submission deadline is 26 November, continuing Debian's tradition of crowdsourced design for each release.
The artwork must embody a distinctively Debian aesthetic, integrate without requiring core software modifications, and maintain visual appeal over time. Elise Couper's "Ceratopsian" design won for Debian 13 Trixie, released in 2026. Debian release names follow characters from the Toy Story franchise; Forky, from Toy Story 4, is the namesake for version 14. The development team cautions against overly complex designs that could cause user fatigue.
- Debian is accepting artwork submissions for Forky (v14) by 26 November
- Winners' designs appear on boot screens and wallpapers for millions of users
- Debian 13's winning design was "Ceratopsian"; release names follow Toy Story characters

Debian is a free operating system based on Linux, used by millions of people and organisations worldwide. Every release of Debian includes artwork that users see regularly on their computers, from boot screens when the machine starts up to login prompts and desktop wallpapers.
Rather than hiring professional designers, Debian traditionally invites its global community of artists and enthusiasts to submit designs for each new version. A panel selects the winning design, which then reaches every user who installs that version of the software.
Debian releases are named after characters from Toy Story films; the forthcoming version 14 is called Forky, after a character from Toy Story 4. The deadline for artwork submissions is 26 November.
