Mark Zuckerberg's superyacht, Launchpad, was the closest vessel to a stranded skiff near Farragut Bay, Alaska, but did not respond when it ran out of fuel, according to tracking data reviewed by the Alaska Beacon and Halifax Shipping News. Instead, the small cruise ship Wilderness Legacy carried out the rescue, towing the skiff to safety after passing the stationary Launchpad, prompting boos from onlooking passengers when the captain announced Zuckerberg's yacht had been nearer but unresponsive.

A passenger on the Wilderness Legacy, Michael Love, said on Bluesky that the crew reported the Launchpad had "repeatedly refused to respond" before their own vessel turned back to help. The US Coast Guard said the boat was ultimately found not to be in distress, having issued a marine assistance broadcast at around 9:56pm. A spokesperson for Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, said the couple were not aboard at the time, and that by the time the crew picked up the Coast Guard's message on a separate radio channel, the Wilderness Legacy was already handling the rescue.
