Ubisoft teases Ghost Recon news soon after leaks

Polygon · 19 hours ago

Ubisoft has confirmed that new information about the Ghost Recon franchise is on the way, after leaks circulated online detailing what the publisher is expected to reveal. The announcement follows a lengthy silence on the series, which has had no major new entry since 2019's Breakpoint, after Ubisoft cancelled its planned free-to-play successor, Frontline, in 2022 following poor reception. The teaser matters because it marks the first official acknowledgement in months of Ubisoft's plans for the franchise, amid a broader period of restructuring, studio closures and layoffs at the company.

The official Ghost Recon account broke a five-month silence to state that further details, or "intel", will follow on 6 August, coinciding with the series' 25th anniversary. Leaks reportedly suggest a definitive edition of 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands is planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, featuring a new mission, while a separate, long-rumoured project codenamed Project OVR is said to be moving the series back towards a grounded, first-person tactical shooter format after years of troubled development.
