Chinese AI Researchers Are Finding Their Voice on X

Wired · 9 hours ago

Chinese AI researchers are increasingly using X to discuss research, promote their companies and connect with international peers, challenging the view in Silicon Valley that Chinese models such as DeepSeek R1 and Kimi K3 appeared without warning. The shift matters because it gives global audiences more direct insight into China’s rapidly developing AI sector, while some US-based researchers are sharing less publicly as competition intensifies.

Moonshot AI appears particularly active, with roughly 30 current-affiliate accounts identified on X, including cofounders, alongside posts from staff at Minimax, Z.ai and DeepSeek. Researchers say X offers stronger technical discussion and international reach than Chinese platforms, with interest growing after DeepSeek R1’s global breakthrough in early 2025. Platforms such as Zhihu are seen as having declined in quality, helping make X a preferred venue for professional AI discussion.

  • Chinese AI researchers are becoming more visible on X.
  • They use it for technical debate, recruitment and international branding.
  • Limited Chinese alternatives have helped drive the shift.
