Nearly 30 years after Tupac Shakur was shot dead in Las Vegas, Duane "Keffe D" Davis's murder trial began jury selection on Monday, 10 August, but Suge Knight, the only surviving witness to the killing, has made clear he wants no part in proceedings. The Death Row Records co-founder, who was driving the car when Shakur was shot on 7 September 1996, told ABC News he does not want to be called to testify, arguing it would harm whichever side summoned him and insisting others speaking about the case "wasn't there" and "wasn't in the car".

Knight, 61, said he still thinks of Shakur, whom he called "my brother", every day, but likened testifying to condemning someone to a fate worse than death, saying he refuses to be responsible for sending another man to prison for life. He is currently serving a 28-year sentence in California for involuntary manslaughter over a fatal 2015 hit-and-run. Prosecutors allege Davis, 63, orchestrated the drive-by shooting though he did not fire the fatal shots; Shakur was hit four times and died six days later, while Davis, who has pleaded not guilty, maintains he was not even in Nevada at the time.
