Staffordshire University has been named the 2027 Modern University of the Year, capping a strong 12 months that saw it top the rankings for institutions created since 1992, open a new student village and student hub, and win a separate University of the Year award from the Graduate Futures Institute. Judges highlighted its success in embedding employability into degree programmes, with three-quarters of graduates going into high-skilled jobs, and the university plans to roll out a revamped curriculum for September 2027 built around immersive and simulation-based learning alongside digital and AI skills.
The university is investing £100million in a 1,000-room student village and hub on its Stoke-on-Trent campus, alongside sites in Stafford, Lichfield, Shrewsbury and London, with its London provision set to expand significantly for 2027 to cover law, business, esports and education. Staffordshire also runs 23 degree apprenticeship programmes with around 2,100 apprentices, distributed over £720,000 in hardship support in 2024-25, and offers bursaries including the £2,000 Horizon Fund for lower-income local students, though new accommodation prices range from £7,350 to £9,786 for a 42-week contract.
