A group of around 20 teenagers and young adults swarmed a 7-Eleven convenience store in Oakland, California, on Saturday afternoon, smashing the front door, stealing items and frightening the two staff members on duty. The incident, captured on video, is the fifth attack on this particular store this year, highlighting ongoing concerns about repeated youth-led vandalism and theft at the location and the safety of retail workers in the area.

The attack occurred around 4.30pm on International Boulevard, with the crowd, estimated to be aged between 14 and 20, initially rushing in and out on bicycles before a smaller group returned to smash the glass door after staff locked up and called police. One worker was struck in the face by a broken metal door handle thrown by the group, while another described hiding in a back corner out of fear. The franchise owner, DA Brar, said the store has now sustained roughly $25,000 in damage this year but said he would not install security bars or close early, citing his long-term lease and a desire to keep the store accessible, despite acknowledging difficulty retaining staff. Oakland Police confirmed they are investigating the incident as robbery, assault and vandalism.
