Sheryl Crow releases Freedom Bus ahead of Pick You Up

Sheryl Crow has unveiled “Freedom Bus” as the lead preview of her forthcoming album Pick You Up, after deciding the politically minded song belonged on the record despite initially planning a shorter EP. She says it addresses US polarisation, urging people to value veterans’ sacrifices, free speech and respectful disagreement rather than using speech to attack others.
The song was written with guitarist Jeff Trott during regular sessions at Crow’s Nashville home and features guest vocals from Jesse Welles. Crow drew inspiration from a visit to Arlington National Cemetery while chaperoning her son’s school trip, as well as her USO performances; Pick You Up is due on 9 October.
