A Nintendo statement said the date was "inaccurate" as no release date has yet been announced, and Guardian writer Kirk McKeand also acknowledged on social media that the figure was wrong, though the article had not been amended at the time of writing.

The mix-up emerged as several outlets published hands-on previews of The Duskbloods ahead of a network test this weekend, describing a large explorable environment in which players compete against each other and boss enemies, progressing through stages towards a climactic 3v3 battle. While the September date has been ruled out, some commentators noted the closed network test build's advanced version number and drew comparisons with FromSoftware's Elden Ring Nightreign, whose test-to-launch gap was several months, suggesting a release could still arrive sooner than many expect, possibly around Halloween.
