Vice President JD Vance has accused the Democratic Party of refusing to disavow left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, claiming Democrats are controlled by the "radical left." Vance highlighted Piker's controversial comments, including statements that the United States is worse than al Qaeda in terrorism and that America "deserved" 9/11, as evidence of how extreme modern Democrats have become. This criticism comes as Piker has campaigned for or interviewed approximately a dozen Democratic politicians, most prominently Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Piker, aged 35, is a prominent Democratic socialist with over three million Twitch followers and nearly two million subscribers on YouTube and Instagram. His comments attacking America have become the subject of Republican attack advertisements in Michigan targeting El-Sayed, whose Senate race against Trump-endorsed Mike Rogers is closely contested—a Washington Post/George Mason University poll from September 10-14 showed El-Sayed at 48 per cent support compared to Rogers at 45 per cent. Although El-Sayed has distanced himself from some of Piker's statements, he has defended engaging with the streamer, arguing that reaching Piker's large audience is important for his campaign.
