Nvidia’s Huang: Don’t mention the AI-pocalypse
At Nvidia’s GTC event in Berlin, chief executive Jensen Huang urged people to focus on building with AI rather than predicting catastrophe. He rejected claims that AI will end human civilisation as unfounded, while saying safety and employment risks still need to be examined.
Huang argued that AI can boost productivity by exploring design options and creating new businesses and jobs. He claimed the data-centre boom had already generated a million jobs in the United States, while acknowledging that AI may reduce the need for some roles; his comments came as Barclays said it would cut 5,000 workers and rely more on AI. On safety, he cited Nvidia’s OpenShell sandbox, but said known harms should be stopped and pushed back against calls to slow AI development broadly.
In short
- Huang urged optimism about AI’s future.
