Explained simply
The Hot 100 is Billboard’s main US singles chart, which ranks songs using measures including streaming, radio play and sales. An entry is a first for an artist when none of their earlier releases has appeared on the chart.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is an Australian rock band, while Justice is a French electronic music duo; Tame Impala and SZA are also credited performers on the track. Grand Theft Auto VI is the next instalment in a long-running video game series published by Rockstar Games, whose soundtracks feature licensed music.
The game’s soundtrack brings together music for players to hear in the game and in its promotional material. Chart appearances can introduce performers to listeners beyond their usual audiences and show how music linked to a major game can reach the wider public.
