Mother ‘murdered’ her year-old baby in culmination of an ‘entrenched pattern of abuse, neglect and mistreatment’, court hears
Kinga Wydrzynska is accused of murdering her one-year-old daughter Isabella, whose death prosecutors say followed weeks of abuse and neglect. At Warwick Crown Court, the prosecution alleged Wydrzynska caused the fatal head injuries while both parents knew, or should have known, Isabella faced a serious risk of harm.
The court heard Isabella had a fractured skull, bleeding around the brain, broken ribs and arm, bruises and a severe facial burn. Medical experts said her fatal injuries were consistent with a forceful head impact and shaking in the 12 hours before her death. She had been in foster care for the first months of her life and returned to her parents in April 2024; her father, Michal Stasiak, is also on trial over charges including causing or allowing her death.
In short
- Prosecutors say Isabella suffered abuse over at least five weeks.
- Her mother is accused of causing the fatal head injuries.
- Her father is on trial over charges including allowing her death.
Explained simply
A murder trial is a criminal case in which prosecutors must prove that the accused unlawfully killed someone and intended to kill or cause really serious harm. The jury hears evidence from both sides before deciding whether the charge has been proved.
Kinga Wydrzynska and Michal Stasiak are Isabella’s parents; both face charges connected with her death, though the allegations against them differ. Isabella had spent her first months in foster care before returning to her parents in April 2024.
The case also concerns what each parent knew or should have known about the risk to Isabella. A charge of causing or allowing a child’s death can apply where a child dies in a household and an adult is alleged to have failed to protect them from serious harm.
