Chippy owner honoured with painting by royal artist

Pindy Kaur, who runs Ocean Fish Bar in Monk Bretton, Barnsley, has been painted by Nicky Philipps, an artist known for portraits of members of the Royal Family. The portrait celebrates the role independent businesses play in their communities and will be displayed at an exhibition in London.

Kaur, 56, has served local customers since the early 2000s and says she has built close ties with generations of families. The painting is part of Coca-Cola GB’s Local Royalty campaign and goes on show at the Saatchi Gallery from 28 October; Philipps said she approached the portrait as she would one of a royal, aiming to capture Kaur’s character.
