Bluetooth 7.0’s optional HDT feature could boost LE speeds to 7.5Mbps
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has adopted Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT) as an optional feature of Bluetooth Core 7.0. It is expected to reach its first devices in early 2027, potentially making wireless connections faster and enabling more capable audio and connected-device experiences.
HDT raises the maximum data rate on Bluetooth LE devices from 2Mbps to up to 7.5Mbps, nearly four times higher. The extra capacity could support higher-quality, spatial and multi-channel audio, improve efficiency and reliability, and speed up tasks such as smartwatch updates and fitness-data syncing while retaining Bluetooth LE’s power-saving benefits.
In short
- Bluetooth HDT lifts the data rate to 7.5Mbps.
- First compatible devices are expected in early 2027.
- Faster Bluetooth LE could improve audio and device syncing.
