Sophie Cunningham responds to social media backlash with strong Mike Tyson quote after political post

WNBA player Sophie Cunningham shared a post arguing that personal growth and responsibility matter more to improving society than political arguments or elections. After apparently receiving hostile comments, she posted a Mike Tyson quote criticising people who use social media to disrespect others.

The post came the day after Democrats won the midterm elections and emphasised self-reliance, education and personal excellence. Cunningham has previously said she prefers to stay politically in the middle and listen to both sides; she drew attention during the WNBA season for supporting the exclusion of transgender women from women’s sports.
