The 10 best performances by actors playing multiple roles in the same movie

The article ranks ten standout performances by actors playing more than one character in a film, arguing that the device can show an actor’s range but can also become a vanity exercise. It says the strongest examples create distinct people and deepen the story, rather than relying only on the technical novelty of an actor appearing opposite themselves.

Among the examples discussed are Jeremy Irons as contrasting twin gynaecologists in *Dead Ringers*, Jake Gyllenhaal as lookalike men in *Enemy*, and Lupita Nyong’o as a woman and her double in *Us*. The article also mentions Michael B Jordan’s dual role in *Sinners* and Michael J Fox’s multiple McFly family roles in *Back to the Future: Part II*. Its supplied text ends partway through the discussion of *Us*, so it does not show the complete ranking.
