“I feel that sense of responsibility more acutely”: After BioWare’s closure, the makers of a new Mass Effect 3 co-op remaster mod look to carry their legacy
ME3Tweaks has released a mod that brings a reconstructed and expanded version of Mass Effect 3’s co-op mode to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which did not include the multiplayer when it launched in 2021. The project arrives amid uncertainty about the franchise’s future and BioWare’s closure, giving fans a way to keep playing and preserving a part of the series.
The mod has been in development since 2023 and adds updated visuals, HDR and controller support, networking improvements, bug fixes and new wave modes, including one that mixes enemies from different factions. Players can use ME3Tweaks’ matchmaking servers or set up private games. Its creators describe carrying the series’ legacy as a responsibility, and say BioWare’s closure has been painful, particularly for modders who had worked with its games for years.
In short
