2027 Silverado adds stronger V8s and a screen-heavy cabin
Chevrolet’s 2027 Silverado 1500 pairs two new, more powerful V8 engines with a substantially redesigned, screen-heavy cabin. The truck offers stronger towing and hauling, hands-off driving and new towing aids, but its fuel use and unfinished technology may temper its appeal.
Four engines are available, including a 350-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and a 305-horsepower Duramax diesel; the new 5.7-litre V8 enables a maximum tow rating of 13,700lb. The cabin has a standard 16.3-inch touchscreen and 12.2-inch digital instrument display, with optional passenger and head-up displays. Prices start at $41,395 for the Work Truck and reach $79,995 for the ZR2, including destination charges.
In short
- The Silverado gets two new, more powerful V8s.
- Maximum towing capacity is 13,700lb.
- Its new cabin adds large displays and connected features.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The stronger V8 options and higher towing capacity could make the Silverado more useful to buyers who regularly haul heavy loads or tow trailers. A redesigned cabin with larger displays, hands-off driving and new towing aids may also improve comfort and make demanding tasks easier.
The case against
The added power and screen-heavy redesign may bring trade-offs for buyers who value fuel economy, straightforward controls or proven technology. With prices reaching nearly $80,000 and some features described as unfinished, the upgrades may be difficult to justify for buyers who do not need the extra capability.
