ABC and NBC to Add 11 More NBA Games This Season, Further Squeezing Hollywood
ABC and NBC will broadcast 11 additional NBA games during the 2026–27 season, expanding their combined schedule from 79 to 90 games. The change shifts more prime broadcast time towards live sport, reducing space for original entertainment programmes and reruns, and is presented as another pressure point for Hollywood’s creative workforce.
The extra games represent more than 270 hours of broadcast programming before the playoffs are included. The NBA benefits from wider exposure after improved ratings, while networks gain dependable audiences and advertising revenue as marketers favour live sport; however, fewer reruns may also reduce residual payments for writers, actors and other creatives.
- ABC and NBC add 11 NBA games.
- Combined broadcast total rises to 90 games.
- More sport means less entertainment programming.
