AliExpress has been fined €550 million (about $629 million) by the European Commission for breaching the EU's Digital Services Act, after failing to prevent illegal, unsafe and counterfeit goods from being sold on its platform. This is the largest penalty issued under the DSA to date, and it reflects growing regulatory pressure on major Chinese e-commerce platforms to police the products sold through their marketplaces.

Regulators found that AliExpress had allocated insufficient staff to verify listings and left dangerous items, including unsafe toys and hazardous cosmetics, on sale for several weeks after they were flagged. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said scale was no excuse and that risks must be identified and addressed systematically. The fine is more than double the roughly $230 million penalty imposed on rival Temu for similar violations in May, and AliExpress now has until 20 October 2026 to fix the breaches or face further periodic fines.
