Amazon makes Echo devices and other products that use Alexa, a voice assistant that responds to spoken commands. The company now sells tablets with this voice assistant built in, allowing users to access its services through both touch and voice.

The tablet market has become increasingly competitive, with companies like Apple and Samsung offering their own models at various price points. Amazon's strategy involves offering tablets at lower prices and bundling them with its services and ecosystem, which includes its Kindle reading app, cloud storage and shopping services, to encourage customer loyalty.

The addition of Alexa+ to these tablets represents an upgrade to Amazon's voice service, whilst optional accessories like pens and keyboards suggest the company is positioning these devices for tasks beyond entertainment, such as note-taking and other work.
