At 26, Sean Duffy’s son-in-law is headed to Congress as its youngest member
Michael Alfonso, 26, won Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District and is set to become the youngest member of Congress when he takes office in January. His victory matters because the seat was previously held by his father-in-law, Sean Duffy, and Alfonso has promised to focus on affordability and what he calls restoring the American Dream.
Alfonso, a Republican, defeated former state lawmaker Fred Clark after receiving endorsements from Donald Trump and Duffy. He has pledged to support first-time homebuyers, lower healthcare costs and protect individual freedoms, as well as introduce legislation restricting transgender women and girls from using facilities designated for women. He works as an accountant, has construction experience and lives in Hayward with his wife and their five-month-old daughter.
In short
- Michael Alfonso won Wisconsin’s 7th District at 26.
- He is set to become Congress’s youngest member.
- His campaign focused on affordability and conservative priorities.
